Could you stop someone on the street and get them chatting about the world we live in and the kind of day they’ve had? Could you inspire them to support a worthwhile charity? Could you get them to sign up and donate there and then? You could? Then you probably ooze the charm we’re looking for.
But to keep it up for longer than five minutes, you also need passion, tenacity and the willingness to be out there in all weathers. Fun and frolics aside, you must be serious about fundraising and what it means.
We don’t ask for qualifications or experience – people of all ages and backgrounds apply. Our workforce is very diverse. Nevertheless, there are some typical backgrounds our people share.
Some people who join us have only ever worked casually. But joining Gift is a real eye opener as to how enjoyable and rewarding a proper job can be. We generally pay better too.
Gift is the perfect choice if you’ve just finished school or uni and are wondering what to do next. You could join us for six months to a year or so, then go travelling, return to study or move to a new job with some great experience and a prettier CV. Or you could stay and climb the Gift tree. Did we already mention that all of our managers started as fundraisers?
Street fundraising is a great way to fund your astronomically expensive Gap Year plans. You can join us short-term to save up to go away. You can then rejoin us on your return, or work for us in your uni hols. It’s much more fun than call centre, admin, restaurant work or labouring. You also pick up valuable experience and skills for your CV.
We’re happy to take people on over the summer (and at Christmas and Easter). Summer’s especially nice for working outside. The rewards match up well against other holiday jobs, and it’s better for your CV.
If you’ve come to the UK to work and travel a bit, good English and a valid work permit are a must. Fundraising’s a great job and you’re instantly part of a big social circle, with the chance to meet lots of people on the street. Moving around with Gift means seeing different parts of the UK - you can even ‘transfer’ between different regions. For instance, you could do six months in London, six in Scotland, six in Manchester, another six in London.
If you like the spotlight, you’ll love fundraising. It’s very much like being on stage or screen. And talking to complete strangers all day is great for honing your acting skills. Plus, the hours work well when you have to fit in auditions and the like. If you’re a comic, you can trial new material on an unsuspecting public without being heckled.
We always like to hear from experienced people who can join as fundraisers or team leaders. If that’s you, get in touch.
